LoQUo on The Economist

Since Loquo was acquired by ebay a few months ago, that a couple of sites have mentioned the fact. But being bought by thew world biggest e-commerce website brings much more than that. So each time an ebay strategy is mentioned article along comes a reference to it's classisifiers website, Kijiji, integrating Loquo in it's services.

This time the reference was in The Economist. I was reading an article about the 10 years of ebay on the June 11th edition of The Economist. The article adds that by having Kijiji, ebay can get into things than don't make sense in the main site like "services, home rentals, personals and jobs".

After making part of the project helping Ubaldo to build its community, reading about ebay and Loquo makes me remember the good times and feel a *bit special*.

The Glastonbury Festival Storm

People attending the The Glastonbury Festival have been trying to get their tents out since heavy rains swalled the festival's campsite.

Firefox on BBC News Homepage

When an open-source software initiative like Firefox gains mass media attention (like when Firefox users worldwide organized for full-page NY Times ad) then millions of users become interested and start using this new product.

Alongside many other PR initiatives it's good to see that mass media is also covering Firefox. BBC has written a story on the problem on why and how Websites alienate Firefox users

It's an interesting article on why despite being outdated, Internet Explorer is still the leading browser used (86% market share). It also explains that by not using Web standards, IE has been forcing companies to develop non-valid websites than do not work under the standards compliant Firefox browser.

Anyway, the browser market is changing. Slowly but changing. Firefox is a much more mature browser and with all this media attention the share is rising.

Now, if you want a tabbed browsing, popup blocking, accessible, intelligent and responsive Web broswer, go on and download Firefox.

With 30ºC outside, Lisbon is probably one of the worst places to go to work these days.

Fortunately a year ago we bought a floor fan than works like it was designed for wind tunnels.

Back to online grocery shopping

I only do general grocery shopping once a month. That's because I usually buy big quantities like 80 toilet paper rolls or 4 Shampoo Bottles each time. Which for 2 people is more than enough for more that 1 month. And besides that I buy my fresh groceries near home on a daily basis.

But once a month is still a lot. And it's always a bad experience. Everytime is worst than the previous. So I'm getting back to online grocery shopping. It's more simple, more clean, takes less time and it's saves my shopping list for the next time I shop. So I don't even have to remember that.

I wish I could order from freshdirect. But for now Continente or El Corte Inglês will do.

Back from Copenhagen

In Copenhagen, she walked like Copenhagen had no public transportation and I spent three intensive days speaking english and meeting people. Lot's of them. Reboot 7 was an amazing event.

Busy week

It was quite a busy week since we arrived from Copenhagen on Sunday. We were already really tired and this week despite being *really* great it was very intensive.

Brad spent a few days in Lisbon and we had the oppportunity to not only meet him but also show him some of the city's best places.

Among other things, we visited Lisbon's Aquarium and had dinner at restaurant Casanova. On the last day we walked by the old part of Lisbon know as Alfama and then the team was joined to have dinner at Chapitô for a very friendly goodby.

Now, a lot of work will be coming in the next few months. I'll be doing User Interface design, new feature development and overall system deployment. LiveJournal is a very powerful tool and getting to know it better is certainly going to be a great experience.
